The Life of St. Elmo
Elmo, also called Erasmus, was a bishop who preached boldly and stayed faithful through great trials. A beloved story tells that he kept preaching even during a thunderstorm, and lightning struck all around him without harming him.
Sailors made him their patron. The blue glow that sometimes dances on ships' masts during storms is called St. Elmo's Fire, and sailors took it as a sign he was watching over them. He is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers.
