The Life of St. Florian
Florian was a Roman officer in what is now Austria who was put in charge of a fire brigade. He became a Christian and stood firm for his faith, even when it cost him his life.
A beloved story tells of him putting out a burning town with just a single bucket of water, and firefighters have honored him ever since. Fire stations across Europe and America display his image, and his feast on May 4 is International Firefighters' Day.
