The Life of St. Francis Xavier

Francis Xavier was a talented athlete and student at the University of Paris, where he roomed with Ignatius of Loyola. Ignatius kept asking him, "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?" until Francis gave his life to Christ and helped found the Jesuits.

He sailed to India, Indonesia and Japan, rang a bell in the streets to gather children for lessons, and baptized many thousands. A beloved story tells of a crab that returned his crucifix after he lost it in a storm at sea.
