The Life of St. Peter
Simon was a fisherman on the Sea of Galilee when Jesus called him and gave him a new name, Peter, meaning "rock." He was bold and big-hearted, the first to speak, the one who stepped out of the boat to walk on water, and the one who sank when he looked at the waves until Jesus caught his hand.
After denying Jesus three times on the night of the Passion, Peter wept, and after the Resurrection Jesus gave him three chances to say "I love you." Forgiven, he led the early Church with courage and gave his life in Rome. St. Peter's Basilica stands over his tomb.
“Thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church.”
Matthew 16:18

Yes. He stepped out of the boat toward Jesus, began to sink when he grew afraid, and Jesus reached out and caught him. A great story for anyone learning to trust.
How was he forgiven?
After the Resurrection, Jesus asked him three times, "Do you love me?" Peter answered yes each time, matching his three denials with three declarations of love.
What is he the patron of?
Fishermen, popes, the Church and anyone who needs a fresh start.
When is his feast?
June 29, the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul.
What is the Quo Vadis story?
Tradition says Peter was leaving Rome when he met Jesus and asked, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus said He was going to Rome, and Peter turned back to his flock.
Why do people relate to Peter?
He was impulsive, loyal, sometimes wrong and always honest. He shows that God can build His Church on ordinary people.
