The Life of St. Dymphna

Dymphna was a young Irish princess who gave her heart to Christ. To protect her faith and purity she fled across the sea with her priest and friend, St. Gerebernus, and settled in the town of Geel in what is now Belgium, where she gave her life for Christ.

Geel never forgot her. For centuries the town has welcomed people with mental and emotional struggles into ordinary family homes as guests, a tradition of kindness that continues today. People carrying anxiety, depression or heavy hearts ask her prayers for peace, strength and hope.
